How Can I turn off my eSIM

How Can I turn off my eSIM?

An eSIM, can you turn it off? Indeed, you can! Usually, your smartphone will show your eSIM as a supplementary line. Also, it is switchable in your smartphone settings. Continue reading to learn how to install, activate, and deactivate your eSIM.

What is an eSIM?

We can help if you're unfamiliar with eSIM or just need a refresher. An eSIM is an embedded SIM. It works just like a real SIM card but is integrated into your device.

To switch carriers or activate a data plan, no external SIM card is required. As an alternative, you can install an eSIM plan on your device and immediately connect to a mobile network.

An Airhub allows you to:

  • Join a mobile network at regional places
  • To stay connected when traveling, use an eSIM.
  • Keep your main phone number on hand for calls and text
  • Data screening, scanning, storing, activation, searching, and downloading to your device
  • Know exactly how much data and for how long are you paying for
  • Put an end to unforeseen roaming fees
  • Change between local, regional, and international,eSIM plans with ease.
  • On the go, top off your eSIM data

Please check our list of eSIM-compatible devices to see if your smartphone supports eSIM technology before downloading an eSIM.

How do eSIMs Operate?

There are a few significant details to be aware of about an eSIM’s operation. Several networks, and data plans. Validity periods are available on eSIMs, which were created with travelers in mind.

Let's imagine that you buy a USA eSIM with 5 GB of data and a two-week validity period. When your eSIM is within reach of your US telco provider's network, it will function. You must upgrade your plan or buy a new one once the two-week time period has passed or you have consumed all of your data.

Check the activation guidelines for your eSIM before you depart (you can find these in your plan details). You can turn it on when you arrive in the US if it activates when you connect to a supported network. Wait until just before you leave to install it if it activates right away after installation.

Turn on data roaming for your eSIM line once you’ve installed your eSIM (usually your secondary line). For your phone to connect to a network in the United States, data roaming must be enabled. You won’t be charged more than you would if you were roaming on your primary (domestic) line.

Your eSIM might need a few minutes to connect to the new network. Please visit our Help Center or get in touch with the support team for troubleshooting if you encounter any issues.

Switching off vs Deleting your eSIM

Depending on whether you intend to use your eSIM again, decide whether to deactivate it or remove it. If you change your mind after deleting your eSIM, you will need to install a new one because it cannot be destroyed.

Airhub advises erasing your eSIM only when:

  • No top-up or reloading options are available for the eSIM
  • The eSIM destination won’t be visited again by you

Instead of activating the eSIM, you might choose to disable it if you anticipate using it again (for example, if you routinely visit a particular location). This will momentarily deactivate the eSIM, allowing you to reactivate it the next time you travel.

To deactivate an eSIM plan, take the following actions:

  • Visit the setting of your device.
  • Click “cellular/Mobile”.
  • Turn off the switch on/off this line option that you'll see..

You can use the same procedures to switch your eSIM back on when you get back to your destination. Keep in mind that in order to connect to a network if the eSIM’s validity time has passed, you must upgrade your plan.

You are now knowledgeable about how to install, activate, and deactivate an eSIM. To find an eSIM for your upcoming adventure, go to the Airhub store
