How to Operate eSIM on Dual SIM phone?

An eSIM is a digital SIM that lets you activate a cellular plan without a real nano-SIM. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, 13 Pro, 13 mini, and 13 mini all support Dual SIM with two active eSIMs, or a nano-SIM and an eSIM. In addition to the dual SIM, Apple's iPhone 12 and 11 have a nano-SIM and an eSIM.

 

What is Dual SIM?

• Use two separate numbers for business and personal calls.
• When travelling abroad, add a local data plan.
• Keep voice and data separate.
• Both phone numbers may make and receive audio and Face Time calls, as well as SMS and MMS messages.
• An iPhone can only use one cellular data network.
• To use 5G with Dual SIM on an iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, or 12 Pro Max, you must have IOS 14.5 or later.

Need for Dual eSIM iPhone

• IOS 12.1 or later is required for the iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR.
• ESIM compatible wireless carriers

Set up your eSIM plan

On the iPhone 13 Pro Max, 13 Pro, and 13 mini, you can use two eSIMs for two or more cellular plans, or a physical nano-SIM for one plan and an eSIM for another.

On the iPhone 12, 11, XS, XS Max, and XR, you can utilise a physical nano-SIM for one plan and an eSIM for another. An eSIM can replace a nano-SIM if your carrier supports it. Your carrier's eSIM is digitally stored on your iPhone.

 

Here's how to Setup eSIM on iPhone?

The iPhone can contain many eSIMs, but only one can be used at a time. To change eSIMs, go to Settings, select Cellular or Mobile Data, and then select the plan. Then hit this line.

Set up a plan.

Set up your second plan and label it. For example, call one plan "personal" and the other "business." You'll use these labels to choose the phone number to use for calls, texts, and data, as well as to assign numbers to contacts.

If you change your mind, go to Settings, touch Cellular or Mobile Data, then tap the number you wish to change. Then hit Cellular Plan Label and create a new label.

1. With IOS 13 and later, you can answer incoming calls on your other phone number if your carrier enables Wi-Fi calling. To accept calls from your other line while on a call using a non-cellular data line, you must enable Allow Cellular Data Switching. A missed call notification will be sent to you if you ignore the call and your carrier has voicemail set up. Check with your carrier if Wi-Fi calling is available and if there are any additional fees or data consumption. Your carrier either doesn't offer Wi-Fi calling or you haven't enabled it.
2. There is no cellular data switching enabled.If you have voicemail set up with your carrier, an incoming call on your other phone number will go to voicemail.
3. Your secondary number will not notify you of missed calls. Call Waiting works for the same phone number. Use call forwarding to ensure you don't miss an essential call. Check with your carrier for availability and costs.

You can change phone numbers before calling. If you want to call someone on your Favorites list, do this:

• Select the "Info" button.
• Tap the phone number.
• Tap the others.

 

If you're using a keypad, do this:

• So, what's up?
• Tap the phone number near the screen's top.
• Tap the desired number.

IMessage and SMS/MMS

You can send messages to either number using IMessage or SMS/MMS.

1. You can use a number before or after a call. How? 

• The image indicates the conversation number.
• Before sending an iMessage or SMS/MMS, pick a number.
• Tap the "New" button in the top-right corner.
• Please identify your point of contact.
• Tap the phone number.
• Tap the desired number.

Mobile data is limited to one number. Steps to modify which number uses cellular data:

• Choose between cellular and mobile data.
• Tap Cellular.
• Tap the cellular data number.

In this case, when on a phone call, the number automatically converts to voice and data.

• While on a call, you can use both voice and data.

If you disable "Allow Cellular Data Switching" and are on a phone call, cellular data won't operate while you're on the call.

What to do if you can't set up or use your eSIM?

1. eSIM on the iPhone is not available in China. Both the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 12 mini have eSIM in Hong Kong and Macao. This guide will teach you how to use Dual SIM with two nano-SIM cards in China.
2. DSDS (Dual SIM Dual Standby) technology allows both SIMs to make and receive calls.
3. Upgrade your IOS from IOS 12 to IOS 13 or later to receive calls from your alternate number.
4. Visual Voicemail and MMS are disabled on your voice-only line if data roaming is enabled for the cellular phone.
5. Extra charges may apply. Consult your carrier.
6. During your call, your data line automatically switches. If you're using data roaming, this won't work. Check with your carrier for availability and costs.
